About Samit
Samit Roy, a Graphic Artist, Design Entrepreneur, and Literature Enthusiast, has been working in the design and creative media industry for past 19 years. A multi-faceted visual artist, Samit combines his knowledge of design and user psychology within diverse media spaces, with artistic illustration skills and conceptual understanding of the socio-cultural environment. A poet with a graduate in literature and postgraduate in Film Studies, Samit’s area of interest as a design professional lies in the cognitive of context-specific customer behavior, and its eventual audiences, on design practice and the psyche of design users within the cyberspace. His constant attempt to nudge conventional design practices enables him to create visually stunning and deeply insightful solutions for the target audiences, thereby providing an extra edge to all his designs, illustrations and artworks.
Since 2004, Samit is associated with Altered Black, a Bangalore-based creative design house, as Executive Director and Chief Designer. His unique perspectives towards design as a premium service industry, process-defined approach towards design execution and aim to demystify the conventional idea of ‘Creativity’, has made Altered Black preferred vendor and design partner of Fortune 500 companies, world’s best non-profit organizations, globally reputed educational institutes and Indian IT/BPO giants. Founded on Samit’s innovative visions about business of creative design services, and supported by a focused and versatile team, Altered Black became one of the 13 hottest destinations for website design outsourcing in South Asia, as mentioned by Forrester Research.
Apart from his professional endeavors to create a distinctive mark in the business of creative design, Samit has also pioneered the initiatives for archiving “marginalized” alternative Bengali literature digitally. For the last 5 years, as the Founder and Chief Editor of Boipara.com, one of the most popular online archives of alternative Bengali Literature, E-book and Little Magazines, he has published more than 30 rare and out-of-print titles as e-books and archived hundreds of individual literary oeuvres from various Bengali Little Magazines in digital format. Being a Visual Artist, Samit also takes his Nature Aquariums, Creative Aquascaing and Aquarium Photography, quite seriously and enjoys working on visual compositions with living splashes of colors, carves and contours that keep growing every day. The challenge to foresee the patterns that plants might create when they will grow up and to provide all required elements and environment that they might require for doing so, is what that attracts Samit to this hobby.
